Native North American Foods and Recipes

Another in the “Native Nations of North America” series, this book features a two-page-per-chapter format with colourful illustrations. The content isn’t specific to any particular group, but a map shows the ten nations and the regions in which they lived. Foods are often localized because of climate and habitat. The prickly pear cactus was a staple of the Southwest region as were wild rice and maple sugar in the Northeast. Some Aboriginal peoples farmed, hunted and fished. The book shows methods of cooking, preserving and storing foods. Foods were important in celebrations. The book includes a number of easy to follow recipes.
