About the authors
Contributor Notes
The Calithumpians was established in 1979 by Peter Pacey, a former high school English teacher with a passion for Canadian literature. In the early days, Calithumpians shows focused on the rich culture and history of New Brunswick, and made ample use of poetry and folk songs. Over the years, the company grew to include more members, and became a staple of summer life in downtown Fredericton, with the Calithumpians performing free lunchtime shows in Officer's Square and taking people on guided walking tours of the city. In the 90s, the Calithumpians further expanded to include creative drama camps for youth, heritage interpretation in the Historic Garrison District, and the spooky, scary Haunted Hike—an after-dark tour of old Fredericton. Today, the Calithumpians are still going strong, providing live lunchtime theatre, guided tours, Haunted Hikes, drama camps, and for the first time ever—writing books! In a way, they’ve come full circle and are returning to their literary roots.

Also known as “cryptids”—from the Greek word “kryptós,” meaning hidden or secret—monsters have been tormenting humanity since the dawn of time! These grotesque, ugly creatures have instilled fear in the hearts and minds of humans for countless generations as their stories and mythology continue to be passed down. They have been called strange, evil, hideous, unnatural, and unusual. Some monsters are almost like humans, others are more like animals, and others are like nothing you’ve ever seen!
