Description

On June 12, 2009, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings faced off for a dramatic Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Championship. In the end, one goal separated the teams, and with a 2-1 win, it was the Penguins turn to hoist Lord Stanley’s coveted Cup.

Led by Sidney Crosby?the pride of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, and the youngest captain in NHL history to win the Cup?the Penguins brought their fans the third Championship in franchise history and the first since 1992. For the two months that followed, the Cup belonged to the Penguins. In a tradition that began in 1995, the Stanley Cup has travelled the globe, spending a day with each member of the Championship team. In My Day with the Cup, Sidney Crosby takes fans along on his own special day?from public celebrations and hospital visits, to helicopter rides and relaxing at home. Written by Crosby himself and featuring up-close-and-personal photography from Brad McCaughan, My Day with the Cup is a tribute to the realization of a childhood dream.

In 2005, at the age of 18, Sidney Crosby was drafted first overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins. The boy from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, instantly became a household name. Dubbed “the Next One” by the media and his many fans, Crosby had a breakout rookie season, finishing 6th overall in points. In his first season in the NHL, Crosby became the youngest player in history to reach the 100-point mark, and in 2009, he became the youngest captain ever to win the Stanley Cup. By his second season, he lead the NHL in points-scored to capture the coveted Art Ross Trophy and was awarded both the Lester B. Pearson Award and the Hart Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s Most Valuable Player.
