Matthew finds another new career goal - this time he decides to become a pirate. And after mulling over his library book, he's finally ready to be the best pirate of all. As soon as he gets the overdue pirate manual back to the library, Matthew will be all set.

Around midnight, however, Matthew wakes up to a commotion outside. As he rushes to the curb, a midnight bus of pirates pulls up. Off he goes with the motley crew, who have set their sights on a pizza truck. Suddenly Matthew and the scurvy knaves discover that another crew - the midnight librarians - is chasing them! The pirates have a load of overdue books! Will the librarians take over the pirates' bus? Will all the midnight pirates walk the plank?

Another wild adventure that could only happen after bedtime, Matthew and the Midnight Pirates is a fast-paced story for beginner readers who are almost ready for longer chapter books.
