Mary Ann Camberton Shadd Cary, educatrice, editrice et abolitionniste (nee le 9 octobre 1823 a Wilmington, Delaware ; decedee le 5 juin 1893 a Washington, DC). Mary Ann Shadd a ete la premiere editrice de journal noire au Canada. Shadd a fonde et edite The Provincial Freeman. Elle a egalement cree une ecole racialement integree pour les refugies noirs a Windsor, dans l'Ouest canadien. Elle a joue un role important en donnant une voix aux Noirs et en defendant les droits des femmes. En 1994, Shadd a ete designe personne d'importance historique nationale au Canada.
