Description
Everyone laughs when Maddie tells her family what she wants to be: a hockey goaltender! Everyone, that is, except her grandmother. Gran thinks she should follow her dreams, and even teaches Maddie a magic trick to help make them come true.
So she trains and trains and finally gets a chance to play for her brother's team, the Leprecauns. At first she's really nervous but soon, in a big game against the Black Spiders, she pulls a rabbit out of the hat to save the day.
Maddie in Goal is the story of a determined girl who succeeds against the odds--with a little help from her Gran.

Editorial Reviews
"The language and large type are clear and easy to read; the story is funny and interesting; and Gay's illustrations are delightful. Leblanc should be commended for the frank and honest way in which she addressed the issue of sexism and its harmful affects on young girls. Recommended. "
