Description

This exhibition of video and photo-based work by Lorna Mills examines how contemporary media and technology prompt our shifting perception of reality. As consumers of visual imagery, people are coaxed to consume a glut of disconnected images at an increasing speed and volume. Eventually, images lose their power to persuade and become merely signposts that distance one from authentic experience. Reality Show includes a series of Cibachrome prints done by Mills in 1983, as well as recent video works in a series of sculptural video installations called Racing Kiosks. In her practice, Mills disassociates imagery and message from the chain of narrative or the yoke of dogma. In her video works and constructions, singular colours, shapes and images become beautiful fragments, potent evidence of the power of the image itself to seduce.
