About the authors
Liz Magor is a Canadian visual artist and educator. Her work is often sculptural, involving ordinary or familiar objects refashioned and presented in an altered context. She has studied at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver (1966-1968); the Parsons School of Design, New York (1968-1970), and the Vancouver School of Art (1970-1971). Magor has exhibited at Documenta 8 (1987), Kassel; the Sydney Biennale (1982); the Venice Biennale (1984). She has had solo exhibitions across Canada, including a 2001 survey of her work co-curated by the Vancouver Art Gallery and The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, Toronto.
Nancy Tousley, recipient of the Governor General’s Award for Visual and Media Arts for outstanding contribution, is a nationally known senior art critic, arts journalist, and independent curator. Based in Calgary, she was the art critic of the Calgary Herald for thirty years, as well as a contributing editor to Canadian Art magazine, for which she wrote regularly. She contributes regularly to Border Crossings magazine and has written essays for more than sixty public art gallery and museum catalogues and books.
Nancy Tousley, lauréate du Prix du Gouverneur général pour les arts visuels et médiatiques pour sa contribution exceptionnelle, est une critique d’art, journaliste et conservatrice indépendante de renommée nationale. Établie à Calgary, elle a été critique d’art au Calgary Herald pendant 30 ans, ainsi que rédactrice en chef du magazine Canadian Art, pour lequel elle écrivait régulièrement. Reid Shier is currently Director of the Polygon Gallery (formerly Presentation House Gallery) in North Vancouver; he is the former Curator of the Contemporary Art Gallery of Vancouver, the Power Plant in Toronto, and Vancouver's Or Gallery. He was editor of Boo Magazine and his essays have been published in Art Text, Canadian Art, Fuse, Flash Art, and Poliester magazines, as well as in the Arsenal Pulp Press/Artspeak anthology Vancouver Art & Economies.
