Description

In this, her first novel, Helen Porter introduces us to Heather Novak, a young woman at odds with the world, attempting to cope with the consequences with her first, brief love affair. Porter examines Heather's relationships with her family, her peers, and a young man who, as did her father years before, leaves her to face alone the painful process of growing up. Helen Fogwill Porter was bo and grew up in St. John's. Her first book Below the Bridge was published by Breakwater in 1980. Other works, short stories, poetry, plays, and reviews, have been published and preformed across Canada. She now lives in St. John's center, where this, her first novel is set.

About the author

Helen Fogwill Porter #&40;b. 1939) was born in Newfoundland and lives in St. John's. "One Saturday#&34; appeared in The Pottersfield Portfolio (1983) and was included in her collection, A Long and Lonely Ride (Breakwater, 1991#&41;. A memoir, Below the Bridge, appeared in 1980 (Breakwater#&41;, and she was honoured with the Newfoundland and Labrador Lifetime Acheivement Award in 1993.
