Description

Naila Siraj arrives in Toronto from Pakistan as a young bride with four suitcases of saris, trading her parents' wealthy Karachi home for a cramped downtown apartment with a hide-a-bed. Ice Bangles is the story of Naila's adventures as she attempts to adjust to Canadian life.
Naila learns to ride an escalator and to ignore the subtle, pervasive racism. She finds a job and encounters neighbours who seem as exotic to her as she is to them. Intrepid and intelligent, with a lively sense of humour about herself and her adopted country, Naila survives, building a new life and making this country her own.
Told with wit, tenderness and a sharp eye for the absurdities of Canadian life, Ice Bangles breaks through prejudice with unforgettable emotional impact.
