Description

Here is the long awaited second book by the author of While Crossing the Field.

In these transforming times, where do our longings take us? We strain for connection, community, beauty, stillness. In this collection, Banks explores these themes on the quiet landscape of her rural life. Here her interactions in the wide hush of a slowed world bring her a sense of community with those around her and with the great healing quality of the land that sustains us.

There is so much we hunger for:
not things, or even food
but sustenance in quiet conversation
that takes us along the road,
peaceful in the companionship of the other,
the deer crisscrossing the path ahead
licking salt on the yellow line
or snatching at tufts of grass exposed
after the great wind and rains of last night.
