Description

Stevie Diamond. Age 12. Female. Private Detective. She and her partner, Jesse, have already cracked their first case. Now the pair is visiting Stevie's father at his tree-planting camp in the Rocky Mountains --- but how can they have a fabulous wilderness holiday when six-year-old Alexander, armed with a loaded squirt-gun, is trailing along? In this Stevie Diamond Mystery, when an international smuggler starts snooping around Alexander's house, baby-sitting suddenly becomes an occupation worthy of the Diamond and Kulniki Detective Agency.

Editorial Reviews

Middle-school mystery fans will enjoy Bailey's entertaining story: clues are nicely place, the plot unfolds at a brisk pace, and Stevie is an engaging heroine who botches things up believably.

Booklist

As a mystery story, Bailey's is well crafted. She amply establishes a group of plausible suspects and provides Stevie's reading of the situation; the child reader will fall into the same traps as she does. By showing how Stevie thinks, the child reader is also invited to participate.

Quill & Quire

[T]he nimble plot development and integration of the unique setting into the story line make this Canadian import, the second “Stevie Diamond Mystery,” a cut above most detective series for this age group.

School Library Journal

Pre-teen sleuths Stevie and Jesse test their detection skills once again in this fast-paced mystery. When a resolution is reached, it is satisfying and unforced. The real highlight, however, is the characterization. Stevie is realistic and appealing as the spunky, independent heroine. Easy-going Jesse makes a good foil.
