Description

Roses are among the most lovely and rewarding plants to grow but they can be difficult to cultivate in colder climates. This revised edition features 67 hardy rose varieties - including 34 new varieties such as Tuscany Superba, Purple Pavement, Prairie Joy and Marie Victorian - that will survive the ravages of harsh winters. Hardy Roses classifies all roses into five clear categories: climbers, tall shrubs, semi-vigorous, vigorous shrubs and low shrubs. Chapters also include information on propagating and nurturing roses and controlling insects and disease without the use of chemicals. Exquisite photographs accompany each rose variety and accurately convey the subtle colouration and beauty of each species. Detailed line drawings illustrate grafting and composting techniques and other useful information. Hardy Roses also includes a list of more than 200 hardy varieties of roses. Organized by species, this list provides a handy reference to the characteristics and disease susceptibility of each rose species. A list of nurseries, rose organizations and source books at the back of the book enables gardeners to obtain information on finding and acquiring their plants of choice. (2001) Please note: Previously published as Roses for Canadian Gardens (1-55013-284-9 hc, 1-55013-369-7 pb). Both editions are out of print
