Description

The poems in the first part of this collection explore memories of the octogenarian author's early childhood ("raised by Edwardians raised by Victorians") and her growing up through adolescence and the loves and betrayals in womanhood, along with portraits of her family. They also concern the workings of imagination as it strives to free an adventurous mind and spirit from the oppressions of the commonplace. Poems later in the book recount the aging and death of parents, and, in the last part, the author confronts the loss of friends, her own aging and sense of mortality, and what goes on after we pass away.
