Description
Vision is the predominant sense of human beings. It is our primary source of information about the world around us. And yet, with the aging of the population, the number of people with major eye diseases is increasing, and vision loss is becoming a major public health problem. By the year 2020, the number of people in the US who are blind or have low vision is projected to increase substantially. Currently, blindness or low vision affects 3.3 million Americans age 40 and over. This figure is projected to reach 5.5 million by the year 2020.
In Eyes, Dr. Bernard Fresco and Dr. David Rootman present an owner's guide to your eyes--from basic information on how the eyes work, to detailed descriptions of problems as diverse as glaucoma and macular degeneration. Written in clear, accessible language, and complemented by illustrations, charts and case studies, Eyes is an important addition to Your Personal Health Series.
