Description
Expedition to Mystery Mountain is a true-tale rooted in the legendary mountaineering couple, Don and Phyllis Munday, who lived in Vancouver, and made Canadian history exploring the unmapped coast mountains. Nearly a century later, a city-dwelling woman joins an expedition to re-create the Munday’s 1926 route to Mystery Mountain, as it was known before it was officially named Mount Waddington.
Outfitted with vintage gear and equipment; cotton tents, hobnail boots, hemp rope, wood frame packs, canned food, antique ice-axes, and wool clothing, the team takes on a challenge that may be more than they can handle.
Told through the account of the one woman on the team, the story offers an alternative to typical mountaineering and adventure themes of conquest and connects us to Canadian history and the voices of women.
Illustrated with photographs from the Mundays’ original voyage and its modern re-enactment, Expedition to Mystery Mountain is a visual feast that will take you back in time.
