Description
While still a dreamy, ambitious girl in the tropical paradise of her home in Kerala, India, eighteen-year-old Sita is suddenly married off by her parent to an unknown Indian engineer from Quebec City, Canada. There, known as "La Noire" to the locals, Sita completes her growing up within the confines of a cold, loveless marriage. But she learns to love the land of her adoption and begins gradually to change in her ways; she finally completes her educations and becomes a scientist.
Spaning three decades, and set against the backdrop of modern Quebec politics, The Enemy Within is a memorable portrait of a woman caught between worlds - between Quebec nationalism and Canadian partiotism, between the demands of tradition and those of self-fulfillment and personal love.
