Description

In her approach to making art, Deborah Arnold investigates the essence of the natural world, creating abstract objects of observation. Discrete primal forms emerge from elemental materials of iron, alabaster, marble and granite as states of feeling emerge from unformed life. The larger works are designed for a natural setting as they emphazize the presence of humankind in the earth's systems and are site specific as they become a marker of place when situated outdoors. The smaller sculptures bring minute flashes of subjective observation of our natural world indoors, each piece being a symbol or glyph of nature. The sculptures should be viewed as messengers of the human connection to the earth.
