Description
Seasoned traveller Anne Fawcett loves the personal charm of small, owner-operated accommodations. For Comforts of Home, she chooses a hundred of her favourite places to stay, and Helen Brigham brings each of them to life with a sensitive yet realistic pen-and-ink drawing. Fawcett ranges all over New Brunswick, the Gaspé, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, the Magdalen Islands, Newfoundland, Labrador, and St-Pierre and Miquelon. For each lodging, she gives the facts: rooms, baths, price, credit cards, season, accessibility, and the policy on pets, children, smoking, and other matters. Fawcett's character sketches of the houses, cottages, or small inns themselves and the friendly individuals who run them make Comforts of Home delightful as well as useful. Children and ancestors, pets and farm animals, hobbies, tastes in flower gardens — Comforts of Home introduces travellers to the riches of human nature in this hospitable region.
