Description
When Sophie LaGrange hears that her idol, Olympic gold medal winner Barbara Ann Scott, is coming to town to star in the Hollywood Ice Review in the fall of 1951, she can't wait to meet the famous figure skater. But Sophie's mother says they can't afford the tickets for the show, so Sophie plots to meet Barbara Ann some other way.

September of 1951 is an emotionally tumultuous time for twelve-year-old Sophie La Grange with the excitement of her beloved Aunties’ visit from Montreal, the worry of having to attend a new high school, the thrill of riding on her oldest brother’s new motorcycle and the anger she feels towards the members of a local motorcycle gang who are bullying her brother. When she finds out that her idol, “Canada’s Sweetheart” and Olympic gold medal figure skater, Barbara Ann Scott, is in town to perform in the Hollywood Ice Review, news that their family cannot afford tickets to the show does not deter Sophie from finding a way to meet her figure skating heroine.
