Description

In 1933, Jean Ewen was a recently graduated nurse who couldn't find a job. When she was offered an opportunity to go to war-torn China to work alongside missionaries, she jumped at the chance - and stayed there for four eventful years.
Back in Canada, familiar with China and able to speak Chinese, she was sought out to go back - this time as assistant to the renowned Canadian surgeon, Norman Bethune. In her travels with Bethune, Jean Ewen met Mao Tse-tung, Chou En-lai and other Chinese leaders, and she saw history being made.
Forty years later, she set down the story of what she did, who she met, and what she saw.
