Description
Canadian in every detail, Mining introduces kids to the people, work, machines and environmental concerns involved in bringing metal and minerals to their homes.
Readers take an armchair trip with a Canadian family to visit a nickel mine and an open-pit oil mine. Along the way, they'll find out about the challenge of removing metal from solid rock far underground and follow its transformation into steel. They'll also learn about extracting oil from underground pools or oil sand and follow the path of crude oil as it is turned into many different products.
In picture-book format, this book in the Canada at Work series fills an educational need for information about Canada's mining industry for seven to ten year olds.
