Description

Campaign Canada allows students in pairs, teams, or on their own, to participate in a simulated Canadian federal election campaign. The program enables students of all backgrounds and abilities at the secondary level to access and manipulate data while simulating an eight week electioncampaign across Canada. Students will appreciate the dynamics of a federal election, study and analyze political actions, and gain a better understanding of how the Canadian electoral system and government work. The game begins with a map showing electoral support of the chosen candidates based on how their policies conform to voter patterns from the last federal election. It is then up to the individual candidates to increase or maintain that support and win the election. This is achieved by makingdecisions throughout the campaign on where and when to campaign, rest, buy television advertisements or fund raise. The candidate who runs the best campaign wins the election and gets to see his/her party occupy the majority of seats in the House of Commons. The game is segmented by week so that the students can choose what their candidate will be doing during that week. The program provides relevant information to aid in the decision making process such as:The stamina of the candidate, ie. how they are feeling, their health, etc. Depending on how the candidate is feeling will affect how often the candidate will be forced to rest. The amount of money available to the campaign. The students will have to manage the campaign, their party's finances, and strategies over the entire campaign.Students can access and analyze actual data on all 295 ridings from the last Canadian census, results of the last five federal elections, and Opinion Polls showing Canadians feel about key issues, ie. economy, crime, environment, etc.
