Description
Call Me Barabbas looks at the journey of both Paul Derry and R.C. Sproul Jr.
Paul Derry, having a dramatic conversion after a life of scandalous living and R.C. Sproul Jr. having scandal in his life long after conversion.
R.C. Sproul told Paul, "You and I know that Jesus came to save sinners. The people in the world you came from know they are sinners but need to learn Jesus saves. The people in the world I came from (Reformed evangelicals) know Jesus saves, but need to learn they are sinners." Thus, the concept of Call Me Barabbas was born and turned into this book of two drastically different lives that share one major similarity - the grace and mercy of Christ Jesus.
About the authors
Contributor Notes
Paul Derry grew up in a military family, his father serving in the Navy. As he grew older Derry was known to rebel, selling marijuana to his peers and drinking. At the age of 15, Derry was on a Canadian Military base in Greenwood, Nova Scotia. He was approached by an RCMP officer enquiring about his friends pot stash in exchange for $20. Following this incident, Paul continued to give information to both the RCMP and municipal police agencies across Canada. By the time Paul was in his early adult years, he had befriended many criminals including organized crime members and full-patch Hells Angels. Working both sides, Paul honed his skills as a fraud artist and drug dealer. In 1992, Paul was arrested on fraud charges which led to a subsequent sentence of 7 years in the federal prison system. In 2000 Paul Derry gave his life to Christ and has since gthen been involved in ministries dealing with human trafficking and missing persons.
Grateful husband of Lisa, sinner saved by grace. RC Sproul Jr. was an intricate member of Ligonier Ministries and has since gone on to Dunamis Fellowship.
Editorial Reviews
"R. C. Sproul, Jr., and Paul Derry have written a testimony that wisely and intentionally avoids mythical story templates. Instead, Call Me Barabbas describes the raw, unredacted realism of a Christ-controlled account of grace..."
