Description

The Canadian Rockies harbour some of the most spectacular mountain landscapes in the world. And what better way to explore and spend time in them than on backpacking trips along the well-beaten trails and trackless routes through this rugged terrain, much of it in national and provincial parks in Alberta and British Columbia.

Best Backpacks in the Canadian Rockies is a detailed guide to more than 50 of these routes and countless side trips—from century-old classics to overshadowed gems, from one-night stays to week-long treks, from family and novice outings to route-finding challenges.

Illustrated with more than 60 colour photographs and 11 maps, this book provides everything you need to tackle these overnight trips: route lengths and difficulty ratings, directions to trailheads, backcountry camping information and distance logs. There’s also useful advice on lightweight backpacking and a checklist for what to pack.

About the author

Bill Corbett is a native Albertan and has been a full-time writer for almost 30 years. He has spent countless weekends and holidays mountaineering, backcountry skiing, hiking and taking photos in the mountain ranges of the Canadian West. In 2002 he became the third person to climb all 54 of the then known 11,000-foot peaks in the Canadian Rockies. Bill’s other books include the best-selling Day Trips from Calgary. His frequent road-trip travels throughout western North America are chronicled in his ongoing cheap-eats blog Marathon Mouth. Bill lives in Calgary, Alberta.
