Marchant dans les pas du photographe américain Paul Strand, qui a photographié la Gaspésie en 1929 et en 1936, Bertrand Carrière propose un regard sur le territoire, sans fard et loin des images classiques de la Gaspésie. Il a cherché à déceler les mutations du paysage survenues dans cet écart de quatre-vingts ans et à s’imprégner de l’esprit qui animait Strand jadis. À travers une quarantaine d’images, Carrière révele les transformations de la société et du paysage gaspésiens. En juillet 2002 Bertrand Carrière réalise un vaste projet installation photographique, Jubilee, où il pose 913 portraits sur la plage de Dieppe, en France. En 2004, il réalise 913, un film documentaire sur ce sujet. En 2005, il reçoit le Prix de la création en région du CALQ pour la Montérégie. En français et anglais.

Tracing the steps of the iconic American photographer Paul Strand, who photographed Québec’s Gaspé region in 1929 and again in 1938, contemporary photographer Bertrand Carrière revisits both the artist and the land. This new series of photographs, some with the same views as Strand, testifies to the profound transformation of what was once a remote territory of fishing villages. The fishing industry is dead, the cod shacks are gone and the older fishermen have sold their licenses. Far from evoking classic views tinged with nostalgia, Carrière's photographs are documentary works about territory, people and landscapes. Bertrand Carrière, whose work has appeared in numerous publications, has exhibited across Canada and Europe. In English and French.
