Description
Amy’s Journey is the story of a young girl, who at the age of twelve, is diagnosed with tuberculosis and becomes a patient in a Sanatorium. While on the road to recovery, she copes with a sudden death in her family which ultimately leads to an acute awareness of her “illegitimate” birth. Amy faces the challenges of her struggle for physical and emotional health with perseverance and determination.
Amy’s Journey is the true-life story of the author, Lillian Bursey, told through the eyes of the character, Amy.
About the author
Lillian (Lily) Bursey was born “around the Bay” when Newfoundland was a country. She resided in St. John’s with her husband and near a few of their many grandchildren. While raising her family, she also fulfilled her goal to attend university, eventually graduating with a Master of Education (Counselling) degree from Acadia University, Nova Scotia. Until her retirement in 1997, she worked with disadvantaged families in the Dartmouth/Halifax area of Nova Scotia. Lily was a member of the St. John’s Taoist Tai Chi Society. She was also a member and former president of the Newfoundland Writers’ Guild and had contributed a poem to the Guild’s anthology, A Charm Against the Pain (2006), published by Flanker Press.Lillian passed away on August 20, 2019 in St. John’s Newfoundland & Labrador.
