Description

Entranced by tales heard in her childhood of the settling of Northern Ontario, Helene Brodeur returned to chronicle those events in interviews with surviving pioneers. Against these memories of ice and fire, Brodeur weaves the love story of a British girl and a young French Canadian bound for the priesthood. This saga reaches a stunning climax with the Cochrane-Matheson forest fire of 1916.

About the author

Helene Brodeur was raised on a farm in Val–Gagne in Northern Ontario. She worked as a teacher, Information Officer with the Department of Northern Affairs, and as Director of Communications for the Treasury Board. She had always wanted to write an historical novel that would cover the history of Northern Ontario and its pioneers.
