Description
The year is 1919 and, like the rest of St. John's, eight-year-old Ralph is caught up in the excitement and adventure of the latest attempt to cross the Atlantic Ocean by air. Alcock and Brown, two British flyers, are preparing for the flight in the field next to Ralph's home, and, although no one has yet been successful, they are confident that they will win the coveted London Daily Mail prize of £10,000.
About the authors
When George was a boy, he enjoyed the stories told by his mother, aunts, uncles and grandparents. George recently retired as a printing instructor at the former Cabot College, and has since been more busy than he could have imagined - although never too busy to tell stories.
Jennifer Morgan is a visual artist and writer from St. John’s, Newfoundland. Thomas Moyst, the Second Engineer of the S.S. Caribou, was her great-grandfather. Although she never met him, Jennifer grew up hearing stories from her grandmother, Violet Moyst Morgan, her father George Morgan, and her aunts and uncles. This book is as true as the stories her family told about the night the Caribou went down.
