Description

An artist's extended study of Grande Prairie, Alberta, presented in the form of a comic book.Traverse uses ink drawings created over the past 15 years and re-contextualizes them in a comic book format. The word "traverse" has multiple meanings such as "to pass or move over, along, or through" or "to look over, examine, or consider carefully; review; survey". Comics with their use of sequential narrative are an ideal format that allows the viewer to experience a narrative that documents the landscapes and mythologies of northwestern Alberta. This publication was one element of the exhibition Here Now or Nowhere, presented in various public locations in Grande Prairie, Alberta in January 2009. The comic book was distributed for free throughout the city that it depicts, and it acted as one of the eleven public interventions that made up the exhibition, which was curated by Micah Lexier.
