All Aboard for Dreamland

Imagine the train pulling out of a station. This special convoy is heading towards a rather unusual destination. Its cargo: verse, especially written for drowsy children en route to the land of their dreams. All aboard for a gently rolling journey through colourful station stops with names such as Wiggletown, Zig Zag Hill, Giggletown, Strrrretch, Yawwwwwn, Groggy Grove, Snuggle Cove, and ultimately, Destination Dreamland!

Author Melanie Harby’s poetry begins exuberantly and leads steadily towards a calming and reflective ambience. And so the child, emerging perhaps from a manyfaceted day and listening to All Aboard for Dreamland, begins to enter a state of increasing serenity. “Full steam ahead to Wiggletown/We zoom down Zig Zag Hill...” gradually evolves into “The whistle is a whisper/Floating off into the air...” Harby’s poetry is a celebration of words, descriptive and rolling in its gait. As sleep approaches, so is its advent mirrored in the shades of the unfolding verses. The useage of a variety of fonts and word placement on the pages add to the visual interest, as do Geraldo Valerio’s spirited and animated illustrations. His creativity provides readers with a variety of cheerful scene changes throughout the journey.

All Aboard for Dreamland offers a oneway ticket to quieting young minds. Your sleeping berth awaits!
