About the authors
KEISHA EVANS has been supporting and advocating for children, youth and their families for more than twenty years. She is a child youth counsellor and works to teach children about body safety and respecting boundaries. Keisha lives in Oshawa, Ontario.
JENNY CHAN is an illustrator, designer and developer working with The Public Studio. The Public Studio is a community?centred social justice design studio that works alongside non?profits, grassroots organizations and people trying to change the world for the better. Jenny lives in Toronto, Ontario.
N.B. GONSALVEZ is the author of My Parts Are My Parts, Your Parts Are Your Parts, a picture book about Consent. She lives with her family in Whitby, Ontario.
SAFIA SALEH is a passionate advocate for equity and inclusion. She is a Resource Teacher and facilitates professional learning for teachers and equity learning for youth. Safia's work includes supporting safe and inclusive schools through an understanding of anti-Islamophobia, anti-racism, healthy relationships, mental health, and well-being. Safia lives in Brampton, Ontario.
Hana Shafi is a writer and artist who illustrates under the name Frizz Kid. Both her visual art and writing frequently explore themes such as feminism, body politics, racism, and pop culture. She’s published articles in publications such as The Walrus, Hazlitt and This Magazine, and has been featured on Buzzfeed, CBC, Flare Magazine, and Shameless. She received the Women Who Inspire Award from the Canadian Council for Muslim Women in 2017. Her first book, It Begins With The Body was selected by CBC books as one of the best poetry books of 2018. Her second book, a compilation of essays and illustrations from her notable affirmation art series, titled Small, Broke, and Kind of Dirty: Affirmations for the Real World came out in 2020. Hana and her family immigrated to Mississauga from Dubai in 1996, and she now lives in Toronto with her two cute, but sometimes annoying, cats.
TIERRA HOHN teaches yoga, works for youth mental health organization Jack.org and is on the Advisory Board at Body Brave, which provides treatment for individuals struggling with eating disorders. While in high school, Tierra founded Untouched Beauty, an organization that allowed her to organize and facilitate workshops around Body Image and mental health. She has a Master of Public Health doing work in public policy, advocacy and health care. Tierra lives and works in Toronto.
Marne Grahlman is a freelance illustrator and graduate of OCAD University. Her illustrations are influenced by surrealism with a folk aesthetic. She emphasizes natural watercolour textures to enliven her paintings with a handmade quality. Hailing from a small woodsy-town, she currently lives in Toronto, Canada.
DANIELLE S. MCLAUGHLIN was Director of Education for the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and Education Trust from 1988 to 2016. Recipient of the Law Foundation of Ontario Community Leadership in Justice Fellowship, she was a visiting fellow at the University of Windsor's Faculty of Education. Danielle designed, developed and delivered the Teaching Civil Liberties and Civil Liberties in the Schools programs for students from kindergarten to high school, faculties of education, and law schools. She is co-author with Reuben McLaughlin of the That's Not Fair! videos, and author of That's Not Fair! Getting to Know Your Rights and Freedoms. Danielle also blogs for Ryerson University's Centre for Freedom of Expression and Huffington Post Canada. She lives in Toronto.

CATHERINE INGLIS is an elementary teacher who has taught in K–8 classrooms for more than 20 years. As an Instructional Coach with Model Schools for Inner Cities, she worked with teachers to help with language and math programs and to integrate more equity focus in school-wide initiatives. As a bi-racial woman, Catherine has always been committed to teaching toward equity and inclusion for all students and has worked on a team to produce lesson plans on white privilege. She is also the co-author of Re-Think, Re-Connect, Re-Imagine, a teacher guide on white privilege, and the resource The Women’s Equality Project. Catherine lives with her family in Toronto, Ontario.

WANG XULIN is an award-winning illustrator, comic artist and writer. She has created webcomics based on environmental justice and her illustrations have appeared in The Globe & Mail, Vox and The Nib. She lives in Toronto, Ontario.
J WALLACE SKELTON is an educator, activist and writer. For over a decade, he has worked in schools to make them safer and more celebratory places for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. As a consultant, he has helped many organizations do better around gender identity and gender expression, including the Ontario Human Rights Commission, the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission, the Halton District School Board, York Region Public Health and York University.

STEVEN SOLOMON is the school social worker for the Toronto District School Board's Human Sexuality Program. He provides counselling for students who are bullied because of their sexuality and delivers anti-Homophobia workshops for K-12 students. In 2012 he was awarded a TDSB Excellence Award, in part for his work helping students to establish Gay-Straight Alliances in schools.
NICK JOHNSON is a writer and illustrator who works in children's illustration, comic books and graphic design. Nick lives in Calgary, Alberta, where he serves as an Art Director for New Machine Studios.
